Mic's

Silence is golden.

Last updated: 4 October 2026

This page explains what data is processed when you visit micz.it and its subpages, and what choices you have.

Who is responsible

You can contact me at m@micz.it for any question about this policy or your data.

In short

  • I count visits with GoatCounter, which uses no cookies and stores no personal data.
  • Google Analytics is used only if you click “Allow analytics” in the banner. If you reject it, or don’t answer, Google Analytics sets no cookies.
  • The site has no ads, no comments, no contact forms and no user accounts.

Visit statistics with GoatCounter (always active)

GoatCounter is a privacy-friendly, open-source analytics service. For each page view it records the page address, the referring site, the browser and operating system, the screen size and the country (derived from the IP address, which is not stored).

GoatCounter does not set cookies or use any other storage in your browser. To tell apart visits, it keeps a hash of the IP address, the browser identifier and a random value in memory for at most 8 hours, and never writes it to disk. The data is stored in aggregate form and is not shared with third parties.

Legal basis: my legitimate interest in knowing how many people read the pages and which ones are useful (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). More details: GoatCounter privacy policy.

If you click “Allow analytics”, the site loads Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited. It collects information on how you use the site (pages visited, time spent, device and browser type, approximate location). IP addresses are not logged or stored by Google Analytics 4.

Google Analytics sets these cookies:

CookiePurposeDuration
_gaDistinguishes visitors2 years
_ga_<ID>Keeps the session state2 years

Google may transfer data to the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of protection.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page; the Google Analytics cookies are then deleted. Data in Google Analytics is kept for [2/14] months. More details: Google’s privacy policy.

These are needed for the site to work and are not used to track you:

Hosting and third-party resources

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). Like any web server, GitHub receives your IP address when you load a page and may log it for security purposes. See GitHub’s privacy statement.

Pages may link to external sites (for example GitHub, addons.thunderbird.net, PayPal for donations). Their own privacy policies apply once you follow those links.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Write to m@micz.it to exercise them.

Changes

I may update this policy when the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
